Michael Luo is majoring in mathematics at the College of Arts and Sciences, Cornell University. On GeoData's Water Team, Michael contributes to building a predictive model for harmful algal blooms (HAB) in Cayuga Lake. His work combines mechanistic modeling (understanding the causes of HABs) and phenomenological modeling (using data to interpret the relations between variables). Besides GeoData, Michael is also interested in operations research and mathematical modeling, for which he has represented Cornell in the international modeling contest in mathematics.
